Columbia Veterinary Hospital offers a variety of surgical solutions to treat your pet. From preventative procedures such as spays, neuters, and dentistry to emergency surgeries such as Caesarian Sections, Abdominal Exploratories or Laceration repairs, we are committed to excellence in every step of your pet’s surgical event.

It is of the utmost importance that our patients are safe and comfortable prior to, during and after the surgical procedure. We set up detailed pain management protocols utilizing multi-faceted approaches tailored to best treat each patient. To maximize patient comfort and minimize their stress levels, patients receive pain medication prior to, during and after surgery. Our surgical staff has been trained and makes it a priority to recognize signs of pain in our patients so that they are as comfortable as possible.

Anesthetic and fluid protocols are custom designed for each patient undergoing surgery and reflect thoughtful consideration of their medical conditions and needs. Our operating suite and dental suite are both equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and patient warming systems, and a trained staff member is present throughout the procedure monitoring the patient’s needs.

Once the surgical procedure is complete, the patient is monitored by a trained staff member until they are awake and ready to return to their recovery kennel. The patient’s temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate are taken every 5 minutes and they receive immediate care if any of these values becomes concerning.

Most pets will be able to return home the same day as the procedure. We provide extensive home care instructions for owners as well as have an on-call veterinarian available during regular business hours.

We understand that anesthesia and surgery can be stressful events for pets and owners alike. We take every precaution available to ensure safety and rapid healing for all our patients.
