Our Talented Veterinarians

Managing Veterinarian & Owner

Cynthia Lindsay, DVM

Dr. Cynthia (Mayo) Lindsay attended DePaul University in Chicago for undergraduate studies, then Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, British West Indies for veterinary school. After completing her fourth clinical year at Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Lindsay moved to the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. She began working at Columbia Veterinary Hospital in 2006 and purchased the hospital in 2012. Realizing the practice had outgrown the facility, Dr. Lindsay designed and built a new small animal and equine hospital on the Columbia River in 2019. Dr. Lindsay is passionate about providing excellent veterinary care to all patients and supporting their owners equally through times of wellness and difficulty.
Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and pursuing the many recreational activities the gorge has to offer. She can often be found riding her bike on the riverfront trail in The Dalles.
Veterinarian

Zoё Shelton, DVM

Dr. Zoё Shelton grew up in the Willamette Valley, amongst many animals. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science and attended veterinary school at Oregon State University. Dr. Zoё recently moved to the Columbia River Gorge to join the Columbia Veterinary Hospital and pursue her love of mixed animal rural practice. She especially enjoys both large and small animal medicine and working with small ruminants and cattle to help improve overall herd health.

Outside of work, Dr. Zoё enjoys the outdoors, reading and spending time with her two cats; Meowey and Luna.

Veterinarian

Rebbeca Long, DVM

Dr. Long is a new addition to the Columbia Veterinary Hospital team, and is ready to provide compassionate care for both your large and small animal companions. A native of the Columbia River Gorge, she grew up in the Hood River Valley and is honored to serve the community she calls home. Dr. Long earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Oregon State University.

Passionate about client and community education, Dr. Long is committed to empowering pet owners with the knowledge and resources they need to ensure the best possible care for their animals.

When not at the hospital, she enjoys paddle boarding and hiking with her dog, Luna, reading in the park or hitting the ski slopes.

Veterinarian

Gin Carter, DVM

Whatever kind of pet you have, Dr. Gin Carter would love to help you care for them. Horses and cats are her favorite domestic species, but she loves all creatures. She has traveled the world in various capacities and worked with everything from chimpanzees to tortoises, zebrafish to sea lions, hamsters to horses and everything in between. Even if she hasn’t practiced veterinary medicine on a particular species before, she is always glad to learn and help.

Growing up on a small horse farm in Virginia, Dr. Gin was surrounded by animals from a very young age. She comes from a family of animal lovers, growing up with horses, dogs, and cats, as well as many small pets like hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, lizards, frogs, fish, birds, and even a chinchilla. Since her own youth, she has taught recreational and therapeutic horseback riding. Originally destined to be a vet, life’s twists and turns delayed this adventure while providing wisdom and perspective that informs her work today. Her passion for the ocean and conservation prompted her to get her undergraduate degree in Fisheries Science and a Master’s in Fish Biology. She then magically found herself in Hawaii for 12 years working for the Smithsonian Institution and the National Zoo using human fertility techniques to conserve our world’s coral reefs. Dr. Gin’s time in Hawaii also led her to become a yoga teacher and lomilomi (traditional Hawaiian holistic body work) practitioner. When the COVID pandemic hit, Dr. Gin’s yoga business was no longer possible, and she was prompted by her mother, a retired educator, to return to school. In that moment, she recalled how she had really wanted to be a vet when she was a kid, so she reached out to her alma mater, Virginia Tech, to see what she would need to do to apply to vet school. Now here she finds herself here, thrilled to be caring for all the best creatures in The Dalles.

With an enthusiastic arrival in the Columbia River Gorge after a lifetime of loving and working with creatures big and small, wet and dry, Dr. Gin’s veterinary approach is grounded in her yogic philosophy. Dr. Gin is a Fear Free certified practitioner and has been trained in end of life care through CAETA International. She is always happy to take time, go slow, and make sure both you and your pet are comfortable.

Dr. Gin spends her free time with her loving husband, three cats and one dog, listening to Dave Matthews Band or drum and bass music, doing yoga, meditating, cooking, reading a good book, or walking. With her signature blue hair, she's hard to miss, so if you see her out for a walk in the Dalles, please wave and say hi!
